Sewage? There's a problem.
In some countries it gets landfilled or even incinerated. In some places they spread it onto fields. And in many parts of the world it finds its way into rivers and the sea.
Doing something good with it will help clean up the environment.
There’s no shortage of sewage – 57 million tonnes of sewage sludge each year in the UK alone.
That’s a lot of feedstock.
And the supply isn’t going to dry up.
Nature uses temperature and pressure, over millions of years, to make crude oil.
We do it from sewage sludge in a matter of minutes. And then we turn it into jet fuel.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from sewage sludge saves more than 90% of the life-cycle carbon emissions of fossil fuel.
So this can help the aviation industry meet its net zero goals.
We’d be helping meet a $5bn unmet need for sustainable jet fuel.
And making jet fuel from sewage should help airlines to keep offering low fares to everyone.
Imagine being able to turn sewage into jet fuel.
Imagine Firefly.
