Strengthening Partnerships for Net Zero Aviation: Firefly at Wizz Air’s Media Day
Recently, Firefly partners Wizz Air invited the team to take part in a media outreach day in Peterborough. The event was hosted by GenPhoenix – a sustainable materials company that produces recycled leather for the Wizz Air fleet from scraps otherwise destined for landfill.
It was a pleasure to spend time with partners across Wizz Air’s sustainability ecosystem and to see first-hand how collaboration is accelerating progress toward net zero aviation. The visit was a powerful reminder of how innovation across materials, fuels and operations must come together to deliver meaningful change.
For Firefly, our partnership with Wizz Air has been foundational. Their £5 million strategic investment, alongside a 15-year offtake agreement for 525,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, provided critical early validation of our Sewage Biosolids to Jet pathway. That support has enabled us to scale with confidence, strengthen our technical and commercial capabilities, and progress toward delivering our First-of-a-Kind facility in Harwich, UK.
As we move closer to construction, it is encouraging to see this partnership continue to deepen. Events like this media day highlight the strength of the sustainable aviation sector and the role that collaboration plays in turning ambition into reality.
Firefly are proud to be working alongside partners who share our belief that net zero aviation is achievable, and that progress comes from action, not aspiration alone.
