
Firefly CEO Receives OBE Honour for Services to Low Carbon Fuels

James Hygate, CEO of Firefly Green Fuels and Green Fuels Research, was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his outstanding contributions to the development of low carbon fuels. The prestigious ceremony took place on Tuesday, 1st April 2025, at Windsor Castle.
James has long been a driving force in the green energy sector, leading the way for over 20 years in developing innovative sustainable fuel technologies aimed at reducing global carbon emissions.
Dedication to the fight against climate can be charted throughout James’ career. Initially focused on sustainable road fuels, James has evolved to become a leading figure in the aviation industry’s green energy transition. James’ latest venture, Firefly Green Fuels, has developed a fossil-free jet fuel made from recycled sewage waste. Firefly plans to open a commercial production facility in the UK by 2028/29, with further global projects on the horizon.
Upon receiving the honour, James expressed deep gratitude, saying:
